Beginners' Courses
New to archery? You've come to the right place! Our beginners' courses are a great introduction to target archery for people with little or no experience at all.
Each course consists of three indoor evening sessions at the Gytes, each lasting 1.5 hours followed by two outdoor sessions of supervised target practice at Barns Walled Garden. The course will introduce you to target archery with a recurve bow: covering range safety and layout, setting up equipment, scoring, shot preparation, anchor points and stance, aiming techniques both with a barebow and with sights. This is a practical course and all necessary equipment is provided. All sessions must be attended. The cost of the course is £80.00
You should ensure that you wear tops with tight fighting sleeves and shoes must be enclosed (i.e. no open-toed sandals}. If the course is run during the indoor season, then shoes must be suitable for wearing in a sports hall. Please note that, for safety reasons, Tweeddale Archers do not accept participants younger than High School age and all participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
All courses have a limited number of spaces, and they will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Courses must be booked and paid for in advance. Once you have successfully completed the course you may apply for membership of the Club and, if accepted, pay the relevant fees.
Please note that our outdoor range may not be suitable for wheelchair users.
Our next beginners' course will be in Spring 2025
